Event Description

Document shredding, a children's activity, and a teen and adult reuse project are scheduled to take place Saturday, November 14th. America Recycles Day is a public awareness campaign started by the State of Texas Alliance for Recycling. It aims to educate Americans on the environmental and economic benefits of waste reduction and recycling.
The City Recycling Division, Library, and RavenStar Outdoor Education are providing three opportunities for residents to participate in this important day.
From 8am until noon the City Recycle Center will accept up to three boxes of sensitive documents from New Braunfels families. The documents will be placed in a secured container and later shredded and recycled by GreenStar. GreenStar is NAID certified for this service.
At 10am children are invited to an hour-long program held in partnership with RavenStar Outdoor Education at Torrey Park. The program, called "Garbage Detectives" will lead children through and activity where they will learn about what happens to city garbage and how they can reduce, reuse, and recycle.

From 1-3pm teens and adults are invited to an altered books workshop at the library. This reuse activity, called "Book Autopsies" will include a discussion and demonstration followed by hands on help with the creation of tresure chests, scrapbooks, sculptures, and found poetry using old books. Supplies will be provided.
Please call the Solid Waste Recycling Division at (830) 221-4040 with any questions. No registration required for the events. Please bring a picture ID with a New Braunfels address to participate in the shred event.
